The Pottery Museum of Montelupo

If you're visiting Montelupo you can't miss the Museum of Pottery, a hidden jewel museum in Tuscany. As I said before, Montelupo had played an important role in the history of ceramics in Tuscany. As a matter of fact during the Renaissance Montelupo was the major producer of high quality pottery that was then exported all around Europe.

At Montelupo Museum you can learn more about this glorious past and discover unique works of art, like the Rosso di Montelupo. This is a particular decoration dates back to the Renaissance, and represents a very rich grotesque decoration on a dark red background.

Then you can admire a large selection of Arlecchini di Montelupo, as well as all the other classic decorations of Montelupo pottery. The collections exhibits more than 1000 unique pieces, that are part of the richer museum collection counting 5.500 pieces.
